Chicago-Paris Workshop on Ancient Religions

A regular collaboration has been set by AnHiMA and the University of Chicago’s Paris Centre from 2007 onwards : “l’Atelier Chicago-Paris sur les religions anciennes / Chicago-Paris Workshop on Ancient Religions”. It organizes annual meetings, alternatively proposed and supported by one of the two institutions.
Both the University of Chicago and various Parisian academic institutions gather altogether a significant number of scholars in the various cultural areas concerned with ancient religions (Greece, Rome, Egypt, Near-East, Mesopotamia, India, China). The setting of the University of Chicago’s Paris Centre close to the Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF Mitterrand) offered a special occasion for the creation of an « Atelier Chicago-Paris sur les religions anciennes / Chicago-Paris Workshop on Ancient Religions ». Thanks to this platform of comparative exchange, scholars from both the University of Chicago and Parisian institutions enter in regular dialogue and discussions. A workshop is organized every year on a specific topic, took on by turn by the University of Chicago’s Paris Centre and the UMR 8210 - AnHiMA (CNRS, EHESS, EPHE, Paris 1, Paris 7). These activities are to open towards the organization of international conferences and publication of collective studies, with both comparative perspective and interdisciplinary approach.
 
On September 21 & 22, 2015, will be held the ninth meeting of the Chicago-Paris Workshop on Ancient Religions on the topic « Topographies of Power in the Ancient World : placing the gods / Topographies du pouvoir dans l’Antiquité : situer les dieux ».
